It was "Tron" meets "Point Break."
A group of surfers at Australia's famous Bondi Beach welcomed the first official day of the summer - at least in that part of the globe - with a a stunning display of neon.
Draped in wetsuits hemmed by multi-colored LED lights, the seventeen surfers braved the wind, unseasonable cold, storm-churned waves and sometimes shark-infested waters off Sydney early Thursday morning as part of an event sponsored by Strongbow cider's "Welcome to Summer" campaign.
"It's crazy too, 'cause it's so dark out, you can't see at night, you just feel it," surfer Victoria Larnach told New Zealand's TV3 News. "And then when you're on it you can just see all the lights and see the face of the wave."
Surf filmmaker Jack McCoy videoed the event and Eugene Tan took photos of the surfers in action.
